Disc hernia
A disease of the intervertebral disc that consists in the bulging out, partially or totally, of the polposus nucleus (the central part of the disc).
The alteration strikes above all the discs located in the lumbar tract and in particular the last lumbar vertebra and the first sacral vertebra.
Disc herniation
A disease whereby the polposus nucleus (contained inside the fibrous ring) protrudes partially or totally from an intervertebral disc. The location where this happens most frequently is the lumbar region, as it is subject to greater wear since it must sustain the weight of the entire upper portion of the body.
Discopathy
Generic alteration of the intervertebral disc which leads to a reduction in the space between one vertebrae and the other. A disease that leads to a reduction in the elasticity of the disc's fibrous capsule.
